Choosing a Chandelier Lift: Minimum Load, Maximum Load and Total Suspended Weight

A lift’s largest weight number is only part of the selection process. To assess a chandelier lift, compare the complete suspended fixture weight with both ends of the selected model’s permitted load range, then review travel and installation conditions.

What is complete suspended weight?

Start with the chandelier manufacturer’s documented finished weight. Account for the components and hanging hardware that will actually be supported, such as the applicable crystal pieces, lamps and suspension accessories. Ask the installer to reconcile the product instructions and installation arrangement so nothing is omitted or counted twice. Shipping weight and carton weight are not substitutes for the suspended load.

Why check a minimum load?

Some models specify a minimum chandelier weight as well as a maximum. A fixture lighter than the stated minimum is outside that model’s published selection range. Do not assume a higher-capacity model will operate correctly with every smaller fixture, or add improvised ballast to make up a difference. Request model-specific guidance instead.

Our current model selection ranges

The following ranges summarize the current model information for initial comparison. Pound values are rounded; the kilogram limits govern this table. They do not constitute a load test or installation approval.
